I cannot figure out how this movie got so panned by critics. The most common complaint I have seen is that it is a formulaic Western. Yet, so much about it was novel. Setting a Western in Australia, having the cowboy fight on the side of the indigenous population, etc. So much about it was original. It was a great film!

Here's another fact: for a movie that was considered a flop in the US, it still commands $15.00 USD at the Apple Movie Store 36 years later. Almost every movie from that era can be found for $4.99 to $6.99 including some fantastic movies. Value, like beauty, is in the eyes of the beholder and this movie is held in high regard if it still commands that price.

Quigley’s shot isn’t Hollywood drama. There’s a couple of guys on YouTube who have duplicated that same shot. They calculated how long the horse ran, gallop speed of the horse, and did the math. They shot offhand using an identical Shiloh sharps rifle.

The person in charge of Casting needs as much recognition as Selleck does... Glad he pushed.... one of the best movies ever and a decades long fave.
