"In Berlin the situation is serious, but not hopeless. In Vienna the situation is hopeless...but not serious!"

We are not one a nation, we are just 10 different ancient tribes who decided in 1871 that we hated the French even more than we hate each other

You can recognize a ChatGPT script on its nonsensical metaphors like "the gaze of a civil servant who enjoys signing documents".
There was nothing Otto von Bismarck hated more than menial administrative tasks, and he didn't look like a civil servant either.

Having spent a considerable amount of time throughout Germany for over 40 years on business, and with ancestors who emigrated from northern Germany 125 years ago, my experience has found Bavarians to have a wonderful balance between hard work and enjoying life to the fullest. To gain a better understanding of all the people of this country, visit the small towns.

Be assured, it is much less than hate. With a twinkling and some humour, mostly.

Hate is too strong a word. There is a lot of regional rivalries and ribbing and teasing, and they can look down at each other, but no hatred.

We had an East German language student stay with us a year or so later after the unification and he 100%
he basically said the same thing as you are here but he was happy it had happened!

Re the different flavors of the German language...my lineage is Czech/German, and I had three years of German in high school. I was stationed in Schweinfurt for a year. On arrival, the Army had us attend a class on German language, culture and customs taught by a Brit lady who spoke an absolutely horrid version of German due to the stereotypical Brit tone-deaf crossing of ahhs and arrs. Another soldier (whose family spoke German at home) and I kept pointing out her accent-driven mispronunciations, which she deeply resented. We wrote letters to our respective commanders and got relieved of having to attend the class.
My wife and I lived "on the economy" with a German family and got plenty of practice.
After my return to Texas, any time I would visit Mexico I would mix up my Spanish and German and the Mexicans would look really puzzled and say, "Let's just use English"

Actually the internal differences and conflicts exist in almost all European countries, except Liechtenstein, San Marino, and Monaco.

When I was studying in Berlin one of my instructors was a woman from Ostfriesland whose first language was Frisian. I loved the sound of her language, which is probably closer to English than German.
