Written and first recorded by Bruce Springsteen for his debut album, but Manfred Mann's Earth Band made it their own!!!! Also, the Keyboardist and pianist is Manfred Mann. The singer and rhythm guitarist is Chris Thompson. Chris Slade is the drummer (drummer later for AC/DC (circa 1990 to 1993)); Dave Flett on lead guitar (Gibson Flying V); and Colin Pattenden on bass guitar.

This song was on every radio back in the 70's. ❤ Lots of "layers". What a great time to be a teenager! 😊

In high school this was almost an anthem. When the eclipse happened a couple of years ago, I live in Texas, I belted out; " Mama always told me not to look into the eyes of the sun, but mama thats where the fun is....! My wife of 40 years looked at me, smiled and said 'you'll never grow up.

This song blasting on the radio was revolutionary in the 70s - to me as a teenager - wow what memories!

I almost skipped this reaction because the studio recording is a masterpiece. But this is a phenomenal live version! Well played!!!

Manfred Mann (real name: Manfred Sepse Lubowitz) is the keyboard player and is originally from South Africa. He moved to the UK in the early 60s and became involved in the London blues/R&B scene. His first band was originally called The Mann-Hugg Blues Brothers, but when signed to EMI, the record company told them to change it to simply Manfred Mann. They had a ton of hit records in the 60s, the best-known ones being Doo Wah Diddy Diddy and The Mighty Quinn. In the 70s, Manfred formed a new band (Manfred Mann's Earth Band) that was more progressive, but managed to get some hits as well, and Blinded By The Light was their biggest one. They still tour today (Manfred is now 85), mainly in Europe.

Although he does write some original songs, Manfred is mainly known for doing great covers of other peoples' material, like Bruce Springsteen (who wrote this one) and especially Bob Dylan - Dylan actually named Manfred as his favourite artist who covered his work. Some great musicians have played in Manfred's bands over the years, such as Jack Bruce (Cream), Klaus Voormann (close friend of The Beatles from their Hamburg days) and drummer Chris Slade (seen in this clip), who's also played with AC/DC and Jimmy Page's 80s band The Firm.

Manfred Mann's Earth Band was the 70s incarnation of Manfred Mann. He was part of the 60s British invasion with songs like The Mighty Quinn.
