And when all of us watched the Challenger blow up, the teacher just calmly turned off the television and told us to turn to a certain page in our books and we were expected to carry on as though nothing had happened.  Nobody brought in counselors to talk to us about our feelings, we were just expected to process the fact that we just saw a bunch of people get blown to smithereens on national television, and then go about our day.  He missed the natural disaster of Mount St. Helen erupting in 1980 we got to listen to the death toll and watch footage on TV, knowing that people had lost their lives....the USGS director didn't listen to the volcanologist who warned people that it would erupt weeks before USGS changed their official position only days before the eruption.  Takeaway for GenX?  Don't trust the person at the podium to tell you the truth.

When I was an instructor in the Navy, one of my students came up and asked me, "What if you were President? Wouldn't that be cool?" I replied with, "Why the hell would I want to do that? You think I want to be in charge of the country? I don't even want to be in charge of you right now!"

As a Gen X , we don't crave leadership or power. When we do lead, we lead by example! We have learned that anyone who craves power should never be allowed to have it. Nothing good comes from those people.
