This guy is my old commanding officer (2 PARA), and he promoted me to Corporal. What a leader he was/is.

Always the poet Chip. We traveled to the Falklands to lay up the 2 Para colours in 2001 or so and lost an engine on takeoff while on our way home. The look on Chips face while the flames shot out of that engine was priceless.

In hindsight we really, really should have taken a video crew with us because all those besides myself were veterans of the campaign and some phenomenal stories were told on that trip. He took some heat for taking me as an American exchange officer which was ridiculous given the facts. I learned more from this officer about my craft than anyone else in my career. Impeccable moral compass, particularly with our role as officers with the Tom’s. My 2 years with 2 Para were by far the best of my own long career. The real payoff came after 9/11 when I finally went to war myself. Cheers Chip!

Going into your first war at 23 is hard enough, but having to lead your platoon into a decisive battle is on another level.

I am loving these interviews. I loved the "Tea and medals" series and this seems to be a worthy continuation. Keep going please.

I came back from my first operational tour with a recommendation for promotion.
So I guess I was at least a 'sticker'.
I've never seen anyone that has met Chip say a bad word about him. A great guy and a very positive example of the British Army officer class.
