What's your first (or next) step to get you to your off grid homestead in 2026?

I can't think of a single problem in my day to day life that can't be solved with a cabin in the woods. Every time my wife comes to me with a problem I just say "cabin in the woods". The more she thinks about it, the closer we get to jumping ship.

 Might I add another one?

Clear conscience. If I am not feeding the beast I am no longer liable for the carnage it creates. I cant stop anyone else from feeding the beast. But i can and should withdraw my own support as much is as possible.

At end 2025, I walked away from my EMS career, years of emotional & physical pain gone. At 52 & single woman, I am starting over. No retirement, no savings, credit card & personal loan debit. I am slowly shifting to relearning the skills my grandparents & parents taught me. I only wish I would have done this years ago.

I'm a single dad with 2 girls. I'm stuck in a city in Florida . Over the last 2 years I've sold everything except 2 guns. What I've done though is gained skills. I can build a house, I can hook up multiple ways of power, filter water, build a fire multiple ways. I've been growing food in buckets and saving seeds. When I was a kid my mom had a small farm so I already know how to raise chickens and rabbits. I have an interview today for a better paying job. Any extra money will go in to a separate account.
Tax return I will buy a camper. Hopefully already gutted. If not I'll do the work myself. Pallets are free. My plan is 1 more year saving. It's going to take a while to make money and grow food when I get on to the land. I want to have a small cushion.

Man you called it! March of '26 and diesel is $5.50/ gal. Grocery bill for 2 adults and 3 kids is through the roof. I heat with a wood burner cook with a gas range and electricity is $400/mo if you're lucky. It's disgusting! Politicians are the lowest form of scum.

I'm a country girl who has been stuck in the city after a house fire. I still own the acre where we lived, but I can't afford to rebuild right now. We now also own a house in the city outright. I'm working on building my micro-homestead now. We're turning the front yard into a garden, planting berry bushes in the small sunny area in the back yard, getting quail and rabbits for meat. I want to get some solar panels to help cut our power bill. I'm trying to make our family as self-sufficient as possible.
