Ellen calling out for support and acceptance after the death of her mother is very similar to Louis of
“Interview with a Vampire,” in his depression after the death of his wife, searching for the meaning of his existence. In their vulnerability, both get a response from a vampire.

Something I really liked in the Eggers film is how Eberhart almost felt like a temporary father figure for Ellen. Her real father thought she was crazy and full of sin. So it was interesting to see her have that small comfort before she sacrificed herself.

i think nosferatu (2024) is one of the only films i’ve seen where (almost) every single read of it is right. it IS an allegory for SA. it IS an allegory for female repression and sexuality. and it also can be read as a dark romance. all of these reads are accurate and can coexist despite the contradictions and thats why, in my opinion, robert eggers really fucking knocked this one out of the PARK

People are soooooo uncomfortable about the sexual aspect of this film that they deny it is taking place all together. All the reddit posts that say it was all metaphorical. Yes, she has sex with him at the end. The intricacies of that and her reasons, and her trauma, and all the messy abuses that go with that, the sex was happening. Their family friend also had sex with his dead wife, its so clear, but people are so uncomfortable by it that they are saying thats not what is implied, despite her literal skirt being pulled up and he's in between her legs. It just goes to show the irony of Ellen being denied her sexuality and the puritanical society she is in, yet even today we are not ok with the sexual content of this film.

I don't get why reviewers described this new film as "horny". That's like describing Cape Fear as "horny". Great video btw.

This is so well researched and executed. I argued with my friend who thought this film was "disgusting and wrong" that yes while some of the things that happened were gross, it is still a part of humanity and sexuality. We can say that all of the gross actions in this movies are metaphors to make the human race look better overall, but that ignores that within the complexities of humanity there is darkness and shame, that's a part of what makes us human. The metaphor argument is very lazy.

Wow, I love the fact that in the 2024 production they actually cared for the animals on set and made sure to protect them; btw the ASMR cat purring made my day <3
