Okay, young person, it was the 1940's. There was three ways to communicate with people. 1. By landline telephone. 2. By telegram. 3. Face to face. In order to do any of those three you had to know where the person was. It wasn't like today where you can call or text anyone anytime from anywhere to anywhere. If you went away for a weekend and didn't tell anyone where you were going, you were clueless about events at home until you got back home. Another thing, there was two forms of news media back then. Newspapers and Radio. Newspapers in large cities would put out two editions each day. A morning and an evening edition. If a major local or national story broke they would put out what was called an extra edition. In the case of Vito Corleone, the newspaper put out an extra based on preliminary info from the police. That is how the newspaper got it so quickly

FYI: Johnny Fontain is a ficticious character, based on "someone like Frank Sinatra". The name Nate s/b NAT (King Cole), and the movie was set in post-war WWII, opening in 1945, not 1970's. The film was released in 1972.

Paulie was killed because he deliberately called in sick to clear the way for the Godfather's attempted assassination, as Sonny indicated.

Clemenza had the "honor" of killing Carlo because Clemenza was Santini's godfather.

The cat sitting on Brando's lap was a stray cat that was crawling around the set that director Francis Ford Coppola gave to Brando minutes before they started the scene.

Sonny gives Michael that "college boy" rap when he suggests that he kill Sollozzo. But Michael was a marine officer, serving in the Pacific, and was awarded the Silver Star and the Navy Cross for valor in combat. Michael definitely knows what it means to take human life. Michael would've seen horrific things, shared foxholes with corpses, and fought hand-to-hand. He would've seen and done things that would give Sonny nightmares.

If you watch the uncut version that was released a few years after the initial release you will see a scene where Sonny has proof that Paulie set up the attempted murder of Vito and that is why Sonny had him whacked. Also, in the mafia they have this thing called "making your bones" which is the "initiation" to get into the mob. To get in you have to kill someone designated by the gang and it has to be witnessed by other members of the gang so they can use it against you in the future if necessary. That initiation killing is called "making your bones". In the uncut version you will also see that Clemenza tells a newbie that he will be making his bones with Paulie so the guy who shoots Paulie is now part of the gang or family

The singer in the movie is actually Al Martino , who had a string of hit songs and albums for many years . Johnny Fontaine is actually his character's name that was loosely based off of a young Frank Sinatra . Also , even though this movie was made in 1972 , it was set between 1945 - 1955 , which is why Michael was wearing his Marine Corps uniform at the wedding , because it was right after World War 2 ended . Also, the reason Sonny had Paulie killed wasn't because he called in sick and missed work, it's because while he was out he was paid off by Barzini, a rival mobster, and Paulie let him know Don Corleone would be unprotected and where he would be. Sonny found out from a contact he had with the phone company who told him about records of calls made to Barzini from a public pay phone by Paulie's apartment.

They didn't just kill his prize horse. They stuck the horse's head in his bed while he was asleep without him even knowing.
It was a message that: "We can get to you any time we want. You won't even see or know what hit you. "
