  In regards to the Toads being turned into blocks, IIRC, Nintendo later clarified that destroying the blocks FREES the Toads instead of killing them

  For #36 Luigi is actually depicted on the cover for All Night Nippon, which is the only instance of Luigi in the early Mario art style

  The Fake Bowsers being regular enemies works really well because not only does it explain how Bowser keeps showing up in each castle, but it makes it feel all the more satisfying when you beat him with fireballs in 8-4 and see that you finally defeated the real Bowser.

  Fun fact: in the concept arts for said game, Mario was planned to climb or ride a cloud, that was sorta dropped from the game.
