I love Monet's water lily painting but then again I love all his artwork. The impressionists captured "a feeling".

It has often been argued that the first ' impressionist ' was Turner. I would love to have seen ' the Fighting Temeraire ' included in this list. He certainly had a profound influence on the later ' impressionists. '

Renoir and Monet - both show the densest core of Impressionism! While the "Sunrise" is not dense enough - other painters remained too close to Realism. Not seeing the painting , but feeling it! That is why Spengler stated: Impressionism is the last fine art of the visual arts - Impressionism has brought back the occidental soul to the ground , from where it started its flight of fancy centuries ago! The cycle has come to an end! What ever came or will come after it, is, in the best case "l ´art pour l´ art" or in the worst case "trumpery"!

I’ve been admiring the impressionists paintings all my life ever since I was introduced to them for almost 70 years ago.
The explosion of colors and the seemingly careless brush strokes so different from traditional painting.
To pick a favorite is almost impossible, but Renoir has always been one of my favorite artists.

“Started as an insult.” Well there you go, it’s appeal to me. My first love into the world of art appreciation. Van Gogh, always a favorite.

You could have easily chosen 10 more famous or 10 more favorite or 10 more historic, but your choices are not bad :) Renoir's Le Moulin de la Galette is stupendous.

My favorite was all the Monets! I love all the impressionists! I’m not sure who should be removed, but Degas ballet paintings that show the creepy ballet subscribers should be here, and Seurat “Sunday in the Park” too. But I am ok with it, I don’t see any painting that doesn’t belong. I just wish it was longer. (This was typed by my autistic, non verbal child who loves art, and painting. Wonderful video, thanks)

I just came from the Barnes Foundation in downtown Philly. The Barnes is one of the largest collections of impressionist art in the world. I live in NYC but have longed to see it. It was just a short train ride away. Took a nice solo trip down.

Wow! I saw Paul Cezanne at his finest. Wonderful paintings of his festoon the place, especially of his landscapes. You also see his evolution—from realism to impressionism to this fractal type of painting that presaged cubism. These are the paintings that inspired the likes of Picasso.

Cezanne had a strong presence along with a tremendous numbers of Renoirs. So many Renoirs.

But this was the later Renoir, when he got a bit lazy. These later Renoirs were memorably summarized by a British art critic I follow as “a bunch of plump and greasy nudes Renoir churned out like sausages.” Alas, how right this British critic was.

But I also saw the landscapes. The later Renoir with landscapes was a revelation. These paintings were not greasy or plump. They made me feel so alive, so ethereal, like in a hazy, happy dream. I literally swayed whenever I looked at one of these landscapes for more than a minute or so. Glad I got to truly observe later Renoirs that went so against the rather caustic conclusions of this British critic. Old Renoir was not good with the nudes. But he was still a genius with the landscapes.
