The Op-Docs film “Ramboy” premiered in 2023. The short documentary directed by Matthias Joulaud and Lucien Roux follows teenage Cian and his grandfather Martin on the family’s farm in Achill Island.<br><br>Now, Martin is 85 and still out working on the farm every day. Cian finished secondary school and is studying for a degree in quantity surveying. He’s still playing football. <br><br>Cian’s farming skills have improved with time, and his appetite for life on the farm has grown; he recently completed a certification for working in the abattoir. Whenever Cian is home from college on the weekends, he and Martin are right back out together in the jeep, tending to the livestock, just like always.

The landscape and weather is a stunning backdrop to this lovely story of a Grandfather passing on more than just the skills needed to care for a flock of sheep. I very much enjoyed watching.

I live in Ireland, grew up in the city and this feels as foreign and beautiful to me as anything I've seen. There are better ways to live than what we've been sold, I think.

In Ireland it is an awful shame that we throw out/dispose of the Wool ? We buy Donegal branded jumpers from woven mongolian wool spun & knitted in China ! Wool was one of the trades that helped many during lean years , either as jumpers or carpets, weaving & crafting was always a brilliant home based industry we have lost much of !!
