  I&apos;m proud my country created this series.<br>Fun fact: Frédérick Raynal, the creator of the original Alone in the Dark (1992) used to live near my hometown in the center of France (in Brives La Gaillarde). Just like Michel Ancel, he received La légion d&apos;honneur for pretty much creating the survival-horror genre.<br>In the end, the 2008 Alone in the Dark game was the last French-made entry of the series.

  New Nightmare and the 2024 reboot are the only two games from the series that I enjoyed and even then, they still fall short of my all-time favorite horror games. Alone in the Dark has so much potential, but the developers have yet to reach it. I really did enjoy the 2024 game and want to hope that it will help the franchise, but judging from its overall reception so far, I doubt it.

  I popped &quot;the new nightmare&quot; into my ps1 for the first time today and 12 hours later I was on the second disc of my first playthrough and I really appreciate it not trying to create anything special. It is survival horror in it&apos;s purest form while not being SIlent Hill or Resident Evil which I have played to death. Usually horror games don&apos;t &quot;get&quot; to me that much but this game managed to actually startle me. I only wish there was a ps1 version of the original game too.

  The 2008 Alone in the Dark game is just way too ambitious for the horror game but poorly executed.
