  Where you stopped in Yunta for the bus break, was once the BP Oasis Garage, built by my first boss Albert Edward Sherriff and his wife, after Mr Sherriff returned from WWII. They lived in a caravan. They made and fired all the bricks by hand and Mr. Sherriff, a talented and proficient mechanic and motor engineer,  also worked dam sinking as well.  I did my apprenticeship there from 1964 to 1970. It was a great place to grow up and there were some fantastic characters and bush legends living there. The pre-standardisation railway era sustained the towns of Yunta , Mannahill and Olary , but sadly, the onset of that, decimated them, when all the staf fand maintenance workers were oulled out and their houses demolished. Where the Indian gentleman was once the Sherriff's dining room. So many happy times were spent within those walls. Mr Sherriff's family were prominent market gardeners from Underdale in Adelaide and during my time, Mr Sherriff had magnificent gardens with abundant fruit trees , lawns and flowers.

  Before the Indian-Pacific became a millionaire&apos;s only club, you could go Adl-Syd for less than $100 in economy.<br>But, that meant sitting up for 26 hours, sometimes 32 hours if there was flooding near Parkes or when the train often stalled at Lithgow or Blue Mountains. <br>I used to sleep on the floor of the train with my feet across the aisle when there was not alot of passengers. The train conductor would just step over my sleeping legs during the night.<br>Slow travel is a great way to experience the country, comprehend the distances and create some awesome memories. <br>Another great vid bloke.

  No toilet on the bus! I categorically hate public bathrooms but just a couple of stops on a 6+ hour journey….you’re a very brave man.

  Thanks for a n Aussie travel video - so many on YouTube are Europe and the US. I visited Broken Hill on the Indian Pacific but only saw the miners&apos; memorial - there&apos;s so much more to the town. &nbsp;You took a trip I can actually take!

  I took the train from Sydney-Broken Hill and then took the bus to Mildura and another bus to Melbourne. You can also, get the bus from Mildura to Swan Hill where you can get the train to Melbourne.
