After watching coraline conspiracy's for years I always felt like I was missing something. This just scratched that itch completely. What a beautiful metaphor for life.

Dude this video essay is crazy, Im Russian and love slavic folklore, but have never heard anyone discuss Coraline in this way. And the relationship Coraline has with others, her family, and life itself is fascinating. Such a mirror into our own minds.

gotta say: this is genius and the hamlet “to be or not to be” also really, really works with the character of “why be” he’s literally helping her find a way out of the philosophical cul-de-sac she’s in (the same as hamlet’s, she needs a reason to love life again)

Mother spiders sometimes eat their children when starved which parallels the other mother (Coraline) trying to eat the nurturing part of herself.

As someone who has struggled with depression their whole life the realization that happiness is a choice was a relief.

This is such a gorgeous analysis of this story. I love Coraline and i should definitely rewatch with your words in mind because i think you just told me why i always loved this movie so much since i saw it as a very, mysteriously & genetically depressed kid.

This was, hands down, the best Coraline theory video/best Coraline video, period, that I have ever had the pleasure of watching . A complete new and in depth take on it ! So well done, your writing and your ability to analyze are truly amazing
