Vietnam's Venetian Village: Life in a Floating House 🇻🇳

■ LAN HA BAY, VIETNAM: The coolest and by far the most unique place I have uncovered in Vietnam is the floating village community of Lan Ha Bay (next to Ha Long Bay). There are several of these but only one I've seen you can actually live in. These are not tourist traps or set up for that purpose. The floating homes in these fishing villages have been there for 600 years and people live there even today. That is also what makes them so great as it gives foreigners and incredible opportunity to see how people live and thrive out in these coves. Having only spent one night in this floating village upon my previous visit, I was eager to go back. This time however I was not going to make the mistake of only staying for one night. I wanted to paddle a traditional plant woven boat. Hunt Gongo. Scale one of the mountain peaks and also get a closer look at the lives of the locals. I decided 3 nights would be needed to accomplish said tasks..... ■ If you don't see a link to Join the Members section: @haraldbaldr ■ I Rented a Floating Home in Vietnam 🇻🇳 I Rented a Floating Home in Vietnam 🇻🇳 ■ The Venice Experience: How Venetians Built an Empire 🇮🇹 The Venice Experience: Food, Masks & Palaz... 00:00 – Ha Long Bay and renting a houseboat 01:30 – Reconnecting with the local boat captain 03:51 – Checking into the new floating home and "Venice of Vietnam" comparison 06:55 – Exploring how the floating houses are constructed with barrels 12:12 – Investigating the underwater mussel farms 14:04 – Tea and watermelon with the host family 17:55 – The floating shop: Buying supplies from a passing boat 23:31 – Checking out the local catch (fresh fish) 26:28 – Learning the traditional rowing technique 28:46 – Going ashore to see how locals harvest shellfish 35:36 – Navigating the "Grand Canal" to find the local shop 38:58 – Exploring the village's floating fish pens 51:30 – Hunting for a chicken to gift to the neighbors 58:55 – Trying "Gongo" (local rice wine) with residents 01:05:20 – A look at what's for dinner: Pork, tofu, and fresh seafood 01:09:08 – The beauty of the floating village at night 01:14:37 – Night excursion: Observing late-night shrimp fishing 01:25:27 – Making landfall to scale a limestone cliff 01:29:15 – Climbing "Mount Northman" 01:33:45 – View from the summit of the bay 01:38:26 – Final thoughts and monologues on content creation 01:40:21 – Bonus: Deleted scenes and returning to the city
