I started out with trying to mod a Gameboy, then two, then a bunch. Eventually a new game store opened up near me. I was there one day talking to the owner and mentioned I had modded gameboys. I started out just replacing batteries in games for him but then he started handing me anything and everything out of the junk bin to repair. This went on for about a year before the store shut down due to unfortunate circumstances. I had a lot of fun repairing stuff and learned a lot about repair in that time. Now I have 3 year old twins that eat up all my time but occasionally whip the soldering iron out to remove the speakers from my kids toys.

I was an aircraft mechanic for several years at a company, clock-in/out. We moved and I tried working on small engine equipment as a service on my own. The STRESS is serious. I realized I would much rather buy something broken, fix, and flip it for a profit than have any customers. You hit the nail on the head.

    Hey there!
I've fixed plenty of things... sometimes until they broke – but some actually worked afterward!
Pro tip for beginners: Always take pictures before taking stuff apart – it really helps when putting things back together.

I'm 56 and for some reason I've just become fascinated in electronics. Bought myself a few starter items online and have no idea where to start but this video is giving me a good basic understanding of what to do next. Cheers!

I was an apprentice tv engineer in the 60’s repairing black & white TV’s then went on to colour TV’s . I graduated to aircraft electronics. The urge to fix stuff is like a drug, absolutely anything that stops working I must know why. It’s cheaper now to replace a board so the skills of repairing to component level has gone. Thanks for sharing your journey.

A tutorial on how to use and read a multi meter would be useful.
