Thank you for this; I have learned a lot from you.

Kinda makes me think of a manual transmission needing to shift gears to lower rpm’s so we can go faster ultimately.

The concept is: The Fitness-Fatigue Model. Do some really hard training but less, and the rest at 60-75%, etc.

I did years of this heavy stuff not progressing.
Then for some reason, I started to train much less, meaning 1 hard set and I was shocked that for the first time in years I started to get stronger.
Compared to previous very hard training this new program felt like cheating, I was barely training, yet getting better results than ever.
Now I train pretty much just like you teach here and I came to this program by trial and error. It just works.

I get stronger with 1-2 sets per week. Weaker with 12-16 sets per week. Anything over 10 and my gains stagnate. This system makes a lot of sense

Great info, I have lived the high intensity fitness lifestyle for years, never realizing this. Just getting more tired.

Ben, you’ve made this same video multiple times now.

And I really appreciate it. The message needs to be drilled into my thick skull many times. 😮Just hearing it once or twice wasn’t going to be enough. Keep up the good work mate

I mean most of those programs like Starting Strength are aimed at beginners with the intention of building a good foundation. I did however made the mistake of sticking to a beginner program for way too long longer burning myself out of injuring myself a couple of times. What you describe is the intermediate switch of learning how to program, periodize and adapt depending on your strength goals. It is such an important part of growing out of the beginner phase, especially when way too much stuff on the internet is just claiming that you „ aLwAys HaVE tO MAaax oUt“ for gaining strength

Definitely gotta manage fatigue. The way im doing it is a "heavy" day in the 3-8 rep range, full body, a "light" day in the 12-20 rep range and then a "medium" day in the 8-12 rep range. Fully body each time. Different exercises suited to those rep ranges, base my progress on performance in the heavy day. Been doing it over a year bow and building strength and size. Great vid

I've been working out since the age of 15. Im 32 now. For 15 years, my body was able to handle going RPE 10 several times a week, but as soon as i turned 30, i realized i wasnt recovering anymore. This video is great for anyone, beginner or advanced lifters, awesome advice.

Very happy that I recently found this channel. I was making all these mistakes you talk about in your videos and now I'm excited to try something more sustainable.
