I get a bag of lemons, squeeze them, freeze in ice cube trays for fresh lemon in a recipe or one cube in a glass of water for a refreshing drink. I also freeze the zest.

I learned from an older woman years ago to freeze bacon. Wrap peices in wax paper accordion style to separate them, put the the wrapped bacon in a zip lock bag to freeze. You can cook what you want from frozen.

I freeze whole tomatoes from my garden. They could be ones from the grocery store. I wash them and put them in a freezer bag. When they come out the peel slips right off, and they are ready for cooking or blending. It's so much faster, easier, and cheaper than canning! And they have that garden fresh taste. One year I made salsa that we were not eating as fast as the garden was producing. I froze it flat in freezer bags and broke off chunks to give soups and casseroles a zippy fresh punch.

Celery chopped freezes well. You can’t use it in a raw salad but for broth and soups it’s great. No more wasted celery.

You can freeze yeast—both active dry and instant—for baking homemade bread. I have some that’s at least four years old and it’s still good. I buy it by the pound from Amazon and freeze it in my grandmother’s old vintage Atlas jars. I know she would be proud of me. ❤️

I also freeze butter, just as you suggested, and it works perfectly. When I have leftover buns from a package of eight, I freeze them, too, and use them later for fried bologna sandwiches.

When I open a package of bologna, I use sandwich-size Ziploc bags to freeze two slices together. Then, whenever I’m craving a fried bologna sandwich, I already have a couple of slices ready to fry. It’s such a simple way to keep things from going to waste and have what I need on hand. ❤️

I freeze all my chicken or turkey bones. Place them in my slow cooker with some celery, onion and carrots. Let them cook for several hours over night. Let it cool and strain . The best stock that you can either freeze or can.🙂

Freeze chili peppers, like jalapeno or Serrano, whole. Then like ginger, just grate what you need into a dish. You can also freeze cooked scrambled eggs. Throw raw scrambled eggs onto a rimmed baking sheet, pop into the oven until done to your liking, cool & cut into squares or strips for breakfast sandwiches & burritos. Raw bell peppers, sliced or chopped. Cut citrus in half & freeze cut side down. Then bag. Thaw only what you need. And while still frozen, can easily be ‘zested’.

Fabulous tips. I don’t buy one onion at a time, being single and living alone. I buy a bag and take the half hour that it takes to shop them, put them in small freezer bags and freeze them and they are ready for any dish that calls for onion
