This song is the perfect montage song for this entire training sequence, especially when Mulan gets into shape to fight against the Huns

 And Mulan didn't need fancy powers to become great. Training, endurance, discipline and the will to never give up an she stood toe-to-toe with the guys! Even saving all of China in the end.

 2 things that makes this exceptional compared to modern empowerment stories;

1. Mulan was not born perfect. She sucks at everything. She is a loser among losers. But she works her ass off to become better, which she eventually did, splendidly. That is so much more impressive, believable, and most importantly, relatable.

2. Even after all that, she is not exceptional. She didnt just suddenly become better than everyone else. She grows stronger alongside her squadmates, because why wouldnt thry be? They are all going through the same training. Instead of toxic individualism, this shows the beauty and power in camaraderie.

 The best part of this song is that it shows you that, sometimes... people just need ''one victory'' to start and keep believing in themselves.

 One thing I really like about this is that technically if Mulan left when she was being kicked out, she would have already achieved her goal. Her initial goal was just to take her father's place in the army and she achieved that. But she CHOSE to stick around and she trained and became better, even befriending and inspiring her squadmates.

 We cant see any character development in live action, main character is already has perfect power from the start, the animation is 1000 times better 🥰

 This whole song today to many comes off as mysoginistic which is further from the truth, yes he's literally asking for her to be a man but gives various reasons and descriptions of what he means, he's using it as a metaphor and from that you see Mulan realize where she falls short and where she can grow and become a true warrior. No girlboss woke ahh superpowers, just pure unadulterated discipline, hard work and intelligence to overcome the gap that was lacking in her and she went on to save the entire China. This was how you supposed to write the story of a true queen, because every kingdom faces their own hardships, famines and disasters
