  Once when Mortarion was still new to the Imperium, the emperor invited him onto his ship and wanted to gift him a weapon as a token of gratitude. Mortarion, still hurt that his victory against the necromancers was stolen from him, flatly refused. Instead, Mortarion looked around and eventually just picked up an energy pistol which was named the Lantern and took it for himself. The emperor let him keep it, and as soon as he got this powerful weapon that the Emperor personally allowed him to take as a gift, the first thought that entered Mortarion&apos;s head was: &quot;Maybe I should shoot this guy.&quot; From the short story &quot;Lantern&apos;s Light&quot;:<br><br>‘I have many questions,’ Mortarion said, at length. His voice rasped in the sudden quiet of the domed chamber. ‘But I will dismiss them all to know the answer to just one. Tell me why you took my victory from me on the day you came to my world.’<br><br>A rare flash of confusion flickered in the Emperor’s eyes. ‘I did it to save my son’s life. You would have died up there on that mountain. The fiend who tormented you for so long – the only victory would have been his.’ He studied Mortarion for a long moment. ‘I could not let you perish, not after spending so long in search of you.’<br><br>&apos;We may still have much to learn about one another, my son, but one thing is clear to me.’ The Emperor pointed at the Lantern which Mortarion openly took. ‘Is there anything in your life you have done that has not been an act of rebellion? Of defiance? You faced Necare by your choice. That door was already open.&apos; A chilly, unknowable distance settled in the Emperor’s manner. ‘A father is beholden to educate his sons. You learned a valuable lesson that day. I saw I had to remind you of your humility, Mortarion. There are some enemies you alone cannot defeat.’’<br><br><b>Mortarion looked down at the weapon in his hand and considered the potential of it. For one giddy second, a dark and terrible question came to the forefront of his mind.</b> <br> <br><b>What if I turned this on Him? What would happen then?</b>

  The Primarchs each have various supernatural abilities that range from things such as:<br><br>- Rogal Dorn&apos;s sheer force of will being able to resist the warp to a much greater degree than others. His presence alone seemed to actually push back the warp when a breach occurred on the Phalanx.<br>- Corvus Corax&apos;s ability to disappear into shadows which he calls the &quot;wraith-slip&quot;. Even other Primarchs can struggle to sense him.<br>- Alpharius&apos; ability to hide in plain sight by masking his presence to others. It&apos;s not invisibility though, he basically influences your brain to think he&apos;s just another face in the crowd. He&apos;s used this ability to pretend to be a space marine in another legion to spy on his brother Primarchs.<br>- Sanguinius, wings and future sight aside, could feel exactly whenever one of his sons died, &quot;like a feather plucked from his wings&quot;.

  Remembrancer left out the detail that Barbarus&apos; air got more toxic and corrosive the higher up you went. Humans clustered together in valleys below the fog, while the overlords lived in the mountains above. Mortarion&apos;s &quot;father&quot; ruled from the highest spot of all, and even when still under his &quot;care&quot; Mortarion had to dwell some ways down the mountain from Necare himself, which allowed him to see that regular humans existed in the first place. That&apos;s central to his various inferiority complexes, even after all of his struggle to strengthen himself prior, he couldn&apos;t endure the final test of of HIS planet and ultimately HIS people had to be liberated by the Emperor.<br>The hypocrisy and ironic bad judgement of Mortarion crying to the Emperor to have psykers banned from the Legions only to throw in with the deeply Warp-tainted Horus was NOT lost on his brothers.<br><br>One thing with most of these loretubers is that a great deal of 40k events purely happen in prose of books, or mini blurbs in rulebooks. Nobody knows what Necare or any of the other Barbaran overlords or Barbarus itself precisely look like because GW didn&apos;t tell anyone to draw them. So where they can they use official images but in a lot of cases when talking they&apos;ll use ANALOGOUS pics to get the idea across instead. Ideally 40k fanart of other places and characters, then sometimes from completely random sources. I&apos;ve found myself wishing they would do something like put a little asterisk in the corner saying &quot;*not actual image of X&quot; sometimes but oh well.

Mortarion&apos;s scythe, Silence, also features a small chainsaw blade at the tip. The chainscythes used by the Death Guard are variants of their already-deadly Manreaper-scythes.

  I think you&apos;d find the Grey Knights chapter of space marines to be interesting. They are an all psycher chapter of space marines but they have no primarch, instead their geneseed comes directly from Big E. They are space marines entirely dedicated to killing demons and they all use magic and spells. A big thing is that they basically CANNOT be corrupted by chaos (there is like, one exception but it was done directly by Slanesh so really no one could have resisted, but still).<br>They are really cool in terms of design as they all have this medieval knight mixed with wizard/paladin aesthetic. They are very very secretive and for a long time were completely unknown to anyone besides like, the inquisition. Even other space marines didnt know they existed.

  The Emperor essentially challenged him to go off the guy immediately or the Emperor will go do it. Mortarion needed more time and wasn&apos;t ready, but had to go fight him or lose his chance. He failed (because the &apos;stranger&apos; made him do it before he was ready) and the stranger then swept in and easily dispatched the final boss of Mortarion&apos;s origin story with no effort.<br><br>Imagine playing a game and you&apos;re nearing the end of your origin story questline that means a lot to you, ready to start prepping and grinding to fight the final boss, and another player with max level gear shows up and says fight them now or I&apos;ll killsteal and you never get to fight this boss.

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUaJb1bVTeE&amp;t=2670">44:30</a> Nathaniel Garro was badass, it was him who told the Imperium about Horus&apos; betrayal, even though Dorn almost strangled him for it, unable to accept the truth. I think he became a member of the Grey Knights after the Heresy.<br><br>Edit: My bad, it was the Knight Errants, the precursors to the Grey Knights.

  typhon flew the entire death guard fleet straight into nurgle&apos;s garden. There nurgle infected everyone with a plague than caused massive pain but did not kill and told Morty, become his and the pain will stop, so he did. The worst part is that nurgle didn&apos;t cure them only remove the pain, so if any of them steps out of line the pain can be returned immediately.
