This band is as important to modern music as Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Elvis Presley, and, of course, The Beatles.

Hailing from Sweden, ABBA was just about the biggest band in the world from 1974-80. They were comprised of two married couples. All the songs were written by Benny and Bjorn and most of their songs were sung by Frida and Agnetha (pronounced "onyetta"). They started out doing Bubble-Glam with songs like "Waterloo" and "Mama Mia" and eventually dabbled in several other genres, most notably EuroDisco. There are a couple dozen "essential" ABBA tracks, and you won't regret digging deeper into their catalog because it's just so full of surprises. Benny and Njorn are masterful composers and arrangers, and Frida and Agnetha are peerless vocal talents, often singing in lead harmony. I would recommend any of their songs that have videos as your next few because they also had a visual style that was pretty singular.

"S.O.S."
"Take a Chance on Me"
"Knowing Me, Knowing You"
"Mama Mia"
"Money Money Money"
"Gimme Gimme Gimme (a Man After Midnite)"
"Dancing Queen"
"Fernando"
"Waterloo"
"The Day Before You Came"
"Thank You for the Music"
"Chiquitita"
"Super Trouper"
"The Name of the Game"
"Voulez Vous"
"Lay All Your Love on Me"
"One of Us"
etc.

All huge, worldwide hits and perfectly made.

Agnitha was probably the best soprano voice in popular music in the 20th century.
