  I don’t know if it’s noticeable to you guys but Victoria Pedretti (Nell/Dani) is actually also putting on an accent. It’s a midwestern accent that’s dying out nowadays. It’s very good in its subtlety.

  So I actually did a psych paper on Bly Manor for one of my finals at university, and Flora’s dollhouse is actually really really interesting because it’s a great example of what is referred to as “magical thinking”. Magical thinking is actually pretty common for kids like Flora, who have experienced trauma as children. The idea behind it is that when a child experiences a traumatic event early on like the death of a parent, they struggke heavily with anxiety afterwards because for that child, they are suddenly losing a sense of stability in their lives that until that point they didn’t realize they could lose. When that happens, children often cope by creating ritualistic behaviors where they can create a sense of structure again. With Flora, she uses her dollhouse is basically a map of her entire world, and she keeps track of where each thing in that world is at all times because it’s the only way she can feel safe. It’s why the Lady of The Lake’s doll is excluded from the dollhouse and she gets so upset when Dani picks it up, because she sees the Lady of The Lake as a threat and doesn’t want it in her home, so she banishes it from the dollhouse. It’s really interesting to look at this show from a psychological perspective because there’s a lot that can be said about it, especially with the children. One of these days I’m gonna have to turn that paper into a video essay cause I would love an excuse to yap about my<br>absolute favorite show!
