reminded me of the human failure - OVER THINKING -

Lovers of 'Catcher' wouldn't like what I have to say, which is that (in ny opinion) 'Catcher' is now a museum piece rather than the articulation of a zeitgeist. And I'm not sure it ever was, except fir a VERY select percentage of the population. It didn't speak for those in very low socio-economic circumstances, nor for coloureds or indigenous, nor for women, or for anyone LGBTQ+, or for anyone reasonably well adjusted. For some reason, high schools the world over thought Year 9 and 10 students would identify with Holden's VERY adolescent angsts ... and they were mostly wrong. Sure, Salinger got published and 'Catcher' was a hit, but largely because it was bold for its time - but very much OF its time, or should I say Salinger's personal version of its time - white, male, privileged, homo-phobic, cynical, self-indulgent perspective on a cold-war era world. As I said, a literary museum piece.

I'm a writer who finds few things more painful than writing about writing. I wonder what Salinger would think of this script. I rather doubt he'd even watch the film. It's a well enough conceived little work with some good acting. Absorbed as fiction it goes down smoothly. This writer found it a pleasant escape from writing.

Why would they ask his wife what she does for a living? Typically women in those days had a war job, and then quit it when the soldiers came back.  They didn't have careers.  Then natural question would have been 'What does your father do?' or 'How did you meet?' or 'What did you do during the war?' perhaps, but 'What do you do for a living' is not a 'getting-to-know-you' question between women in the 1940s. (I know because my aunts and mother as well as great-aunts told me from personal experience that if you had a job and then got married, you were immediately let go so a man supporting a family could have a job. One of my aunts deliberately gave a slightly falsified name to the reporter who reported the 'marriages' column in the newspaper so that her employer would not realize she had got married, and she could keep her job.)

Years ago read a newspaper article about J.D Salinger, about he becoming a recluse, in 2026 read his only novel " The catcher in the rye", but didn't like it much, to much cynicism and Holden was always cursing. But enjoyed this movie, it seems that Salinger was into meditation, it helped him to forget the violence of war. Good, meditation does help you ,it keeps many common  maladies at bay.I too do pranayam.

I am 72 years old/young. I have come to like and respect only 5 Jews: 1 Spinoza, 2 Freud, 3 Kafka, 4 Salinger, and of course, 5 myself.<br>I say nothing about Plato, because it is debated, has been for some time, whether he was &nbsp;Jew or not. Somewhere the film is subordinated to Jewish/Zionist propaganda. I stopped watching it.😢
