Alan has done a great service to men. He is making it acceptable for men to speak up about the abuse many of them would have suffered.

I'd like to compliment Gyles for suppressing his normal sparkling raconteur style to extract a marvellous interview from Alan. Well done both.

I recently purchased Alan’s book “Just Ignore Him”, and within 48 hours of finishing it, I had built up the courage to type up and send a SafeSport report. There is now an official investigation that has been opened, and I have an interview with the investigators scheduled. It’s not the same as being abused in that way by your parent, but hearing Alan’s story empowered me, and if I can help even one child not become a victim of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, it will be worth the discomfort that comes with telling someone my story.

Dear Alan, thank you for deciding to share so much here. Your heart and thoughtfulness shines so strongly and what a journey you’ve survived. So very true and relatable re how children-little ones were viewed back then. Trauma just wasn’t in the discussion then, no matter how appalling and devastating the events, I remember it really wasn’t spoken of. For all those of us who are listening to your recollections here and relating, it’s really something to realise how we even manage to survive the huge stuff. I’m so sad you had so much to deal with.<br>Thank you for all the joy you give to so many with your work and for this incredible conversation ❤

Giles was amazingly quiet for him which proved he can also be a good listener. A great discussion. Thank you.

This is heartbreaking to listen to. As a victim of sexual abuse myself when I was about 5 or 6, it brought back a lot of memories I'd hoped were long buried. I reported it to police when I was 23 and have never wanted to think about it again but this podcast has helped me realise I should talk about it more and not just pretend it never happened. If you're reading this, Alan, thank you for talking about this so publicly. Hopefully talking it through helped you as well. ❤️

A lot of loss at an early age. Then the ultimate betrayal of a child by his father. A survivor.

Your father's words were"just ignore him" He was setting you up. My father used to say "don't believe her" This way when the day comes and I reveal his abuse, everyone is conditioned not to believe me.

My opinion of Alan Davies has changed immensely. It takes a great deal of strength to reveal such abuse to the public.

GB was the most receptive and least centre stage I've ever seen him, hats off to him for leading us through a great interview. Love Alan, top bloke.
