Psychology of Being Broke: Why It Makes You Worse With Money?

Being short on money does not only limit what you can buy. It changes what you are able to think about and there is a number attached to it. In 2013, four researchers published a study in Science. They went to Tamil Nadu and tested the same sugarcane farmers twice: once before the harvest, when they were poor, and once after, when they were not. Same people. Same tests. Same brains. The scores after the harvest were significantly higher, and the gap was equivalent to about thirteen IQ points roughly what you lose after a full night without sleep. Nobody got smarter in those few weeks. They just stopped carrying something. This video breaks down what that something is.
