John Bradshaw in his work claimed that "toxic shame" was the fuel for ALL addiction. Toxic shame, the core belief that we are flawed and defective inside when in fact our "being" is perfect. Our performance? A different story. The boundary is to fully integrate the difference between the being and the doing as they are entirely different. We don't need to do anything to "be" perfect beings created in our maker's image. We need to learn how to take responsibility for our doing. As we learn to access our feeling states we can then feel it and subsequently heal it. If I didn't experience it myself and see it with so many others I would not support this theory. Basically, the keys to the kingdom.
