From a title eluding about the shallows, this went very deep. Cheers

Thank you Roger for this wonderful piece. For closing the circle of your life and pointing a way forward. It’s not necessarily big waters that are important but the connection between land and water that are the most meaningful. Your work to build this understanding is very valuable and appreciated. I’m looking forward to getting my copy of your book.

My family holidays were at Barton Turf, on the Norfolk Broads, during the same era Roger was holidaying on Windermere.

The manager of the school's sailing base would lend my brother and I a Canadian canoe named Bum free.

We'd paddle for miles through reed beds, bird watching and exploring cuttings.

In those days the water was clear and you could see shaols of fish in the water!

Windmills, half ruinous churches, sand dunes, sunken old wooden peat barges and Norfolk punts. And those big skies and the smell of peat.

I ordered the book from a local bookshop (a dying breed that need support), it finally arrived, and it is such a gem! The content is a real treat, and it is beautifully produced and a pleasure to hold and read. Swallows and Amazons for adults :). Thank you for creating this work of art, in addition to your wonderful videos.

As a child in New Zealand in the 1950s, I devoured the Swallows and Amazons books, and it was not until 1972 that I made it to the English lake district. It is only recently from Youtube ,that I found out Coniston was Arthur Ransomes retreat, and so thanks for the added information. I shall look forward to reading your book. I see from your videos that you have visited the Mana Yacht Club and sailed in the area around Mana Island where I have done most of my own sailing in my 16ft Silouette bilge keeler. Many thanks for your delightful videos!

Missed this one someone! What a great little doco you have put together here Roger. And as someone who pestered you years ago in the comments section of one of your vids to write a book on your sailing stories, I'm very glad you did exactly that! Almost finished it and what a great book. Any Ransome fan would definitely enjoy some of those chapters. The photos and lovely little sketches were a real bonus too. A lucky child you were!
