Vietnam may be considered cheap, but for the many residents who live there, earning between $1.5k and $5k per year, it is not affordable. An average Vietnamese person paying $1.15 for a mango matcha is about equivalent to people in the States paying $11.50 for a mango matcha, which I would imagine many would deem a steep price for a beverage. Or, for Vietnamese people, a single coconut costing $1.30 is equivalent to many in the States paying $13.00 for a single coconut. Call me a skeptic, but I doubt the majority of Vietnamese make $15k, let alone $50k a year. If you're poor, everything seems expensive, even if it looks like a great deal to foreigners.

I'd take a $1 Bánh mì over a $12+ Subway sub any day.

As a Vietnamese who lives in USA and follows your channel, I would say a typical production operator earn ~ $12/day in VN. With $50/day to spend, you will have decent living but not like a king.
I admire your kind heart as a human being toward some of the hardship of Vietnamese that is trying to have an income to support their family. You're welcome to tip them but please don't let someone take advantage of you.
Thanks for sharing the good sides of people everywhere in the world, especially VN in this video.
Appreciate your honesty in everything you do and share.
Good luck and keep exploring!

The foods that you bought from the old lady on the street(bánh ướt) steam rice noodle cake. You have to take the sausage out of the bananas leave and put it together with the steam rice noodle and then pull the sauce that in the bag in then mix it up and enjoy.

It was so kind of you to think of how hard it is for people who has to carry so much on their tiny bike to make a living. That's the right way to give. By the way, the dish you got from the lady is rice cake with dried shrimp, fried shallot, and I believe it is pork made into a piee like that and it was steamed in banana leave. You missed the much better and authentic taste of this dish because you didn't pour on the fish sauce in the small plastic bag...the more sauce the better, and you are supposed to dip everything in that sauce to eat and also drink the sauce while eating this dish. The dish is called ba'nh be\o.

The sandals and hats you buy are more expensive than their real value. However, you are a good person when you see them working hard under the sun so you don't bargain 🙏 Just consider buying a little more expensive to help them.

For those who don't know , An Thuong is the most expensive area in the city, in the city side prices can drop by about 30%.
