  Kylie is someone I've been a fan of since the Neighbours days - showing my age here. She's not only an icon, she is also such a genuinely nice and lovely person, and she has always brought joy to my life and the lives of millions of others. Another great interview with her from the BBC, looking forward to her new album and tour.

  In regards to the CDs, having billion of songs available in the palm of your hand is really an amazing thing but don’t forget that the keyword here is “available”, which means they can also be unavailable. We don’t own the songs we stream. If one day Spotify decides to go offline, we lose all that. So don’t forget to buy CDs, Vinyls or even digital copies of the songs, if you’d like to have them forever. Music streaming is handy but not your property.

  Ok, I’m an American chiming in months later. I love Kylie, and I love Sidetracked, because honestly, I think the music coming out of the UK has been more interesting than what’s been coming out of the US for a while now.<br><br>The thing with Chappell is this: she made an overtly political move during an election that would decide whether the country slid into authoritarianism or not. Specifically, she pulled out of a previously agreed-upon White House engagement when Joe Biden was president. That’s fine but once you do that, reporters are obviously going to ask questions. Instead of handling it directly, she became defensive, and her team dodged or pushed back. Then came the video where she said she couldn’t endorse anyone in the 2024 election. The problem is, supporters of fascist authoritarianism took that as a tacit endorsement of their candidate.<br><br>You can’t fan those kinds of flames and then expect silence to make it all go away. I don’t even know what the UK equivalent would be—maybe something like Brexit, where a celebrity says, “We should leave, the EU is nothing but genocide supporters,” and then when pressed further, they respond, “Why are you being mean to me? I didn’t ask for this.” From an American perspective, the pushback against Chappell was, on the surface, justified.<br><br>That said, she’s also in the right not to want to answer those questions. But the reality is, the second she does answer her words (or her silence) will be weaponized. And at that point, she can’t really complain about the fallout. Just my opinion.
