  This book is an excellent parody of victorian everyday life through a child&apos;s eyes. During a time when all children&apos;s entertainment was rather preachy, &quot;Alice&quot; was made for the sole purpose of amusing children. ❤

  I held the original illustrations in my hands when it came to a university library as a kid. I got kicked out of English class in highschool for trying to explain to the teacher that the original story wasn&apos;t as sweet and fuzzy as she was trying to make it out to be. She yelled at me and refused to accept reality. I stood my ground.

  The answer to the riddle I always thought of when it came to &quot;why is a Raven like a writing desk&quot; is because they both have quill, or feathers. The birds feathers are as black as ink and the quill is used to write with ink.

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EklMeAVRptw&amp;t=116">1:56</a> Actually, Burton has gone on record saying he&apos;s <b>not</b> a fan of the original Alice story (or the 1951 Disney film), saying that he never felt a connection to it (which really shows in the final product). Those &quot;deep cut references&quot; sprinkled throughout the 2010 movie were most likely added in by the screenwriter, Linda Woolverton.

  Just a fun little side note. Flamingos and mustard do both bite. It&apos;s a play on the word &apos;bite&apos;. Which has multiple meanings in the English language. Maybe in American English it&apos;s not commonly used, but the word &apos;Bite&apos; can also mean a sharp or pungent flavour. Mustard does, in fact, have a &apos;bite&apos; to it.

  The Tim Burton movie is one of those cases where I like it as its own thing, but not necessarily as an adaptation of the original story. Kind of how I feel about the American Hitchhikers&apos; Guide movie.

  Jon, You should do a “Messed Up Origins” for The Looking Glass Wars. It’s basically “The Truth” behind Alice in Wonderland. It has two Queens one of which is completely psychotic. Three guesses which one is the psychopath. The choices are Queen Genevieve Hart or Queen Rose/Redd Hart. It also has a Cat that can shape shift between a cute kitten and a humanoid form with razor sharp claws. Also, The Mad Hatter is called Hatter Maddigan and he’s the personal bodyguard to the good Queen and the Princess.
