My husband sailed his 48ft sloop solo around the world for 8 yrs. I did the passage from Thailand to Sri Lanka across the Bay of Bengal in terrible weather. But we had GPS CHARTS and IRIDIUM weather. We always knew where we were and what was ahead. We live in enormous respect for those who charted the unknown. And we are grateful.

Fascinating! I’ve been to Kozhikode (1992) and saw the historic plaque
marking the landing of Vasco da Gama. You brought it to life. Wonderfully told. From Arcadia, Florida.

I have previously found Chinese porcelain plus cornelian beads (made in Cambay) on a specific small beach near Port Edward (South Africa). These artifacts come from the Portuguese ship Sao Joao, wrecked at this place during the return voyage from India in 1552.
Your channel is excellent

These history stories are so interesting I can not fall asleep, My grandmother came from Terciera where Paolo de Gama breathed his last breath. in our 3 generations I was born raised in Guam and now I am now awake in California where my mother was born. The clash of cultures lay bare the essense of humanity. So interesting!

Having lived near Calicut ,Kerala in India, I can tell you a lot of things you hear being described about the people, culture and others details have not changed much. The temples are still there. The ceremonial drums are still played. The markets are still there.
