  That statement about swirling wind in the valleys spoke to me. I’m still learning this stuff. But it amazes me how the wind can be in the right direction until I sit in a stand and it’s suddenly not. Also, how does an old doe know I’m there when the wind seems to be right?

  I hunt public land where there are hiking trails. This works out great for my hunts because the deer are used to seeing people. I can walk the hiking trail and then hop off it to get to my hunting area. When I get out, I can use the hiking trail, or I can slow walk out on another route. I get deer there every year.

  Yeah,not sure if I agree with the ATV statements. Big mature buck avoid anything out of the ordinary of nature. This may work on his farm,but not on preassured land. Key is to hunt less,not more and PLAY the wind. I have adopted the "less is more and been way more successful.

  I've hunted spots on public land before saddle and watched what routes from over the years. Put a mock licking branch off a t corridor in the off season and it has attracted many types of deer

  Driving up to your stand, getting picked by someone else so you don't spook deer or leave scent trails.  Great tactic for managed private properties. That's not  quite how it works on WMA's, state and national forests.

  Deer bed at the front of my property of 67 acres . I spook them all the time but they come back late night 8pm it sucks

  So like a lot of folks I imagine. My "best" hunting spot is my rifle range, my fourwheeler trails, where I mow grass, where we walk, where the neighbors walk/ride horses, where we camp. The life of owing 7 acres. My buddy smokes a 156" off my property last year. Neighbor took a 160" two years back. Clarke co. Va

  Im lucky on my farm with all the grain fields and all the woods for the most part are pockets, so personally I walk to almost 90% of my stands by walking through the center of the fields far from the woodlines. If any deer crosses my path he has to be out in the middle of the fields, and my stands are never more than 15 yards inside the woods and many times as the guy says here, they are located on the highest area of the woods. I have great success even though I dont hunt more than 10 days of the entire year.

  It all makes sense. The problem I run into, I have 2 or 3 acres on my property that I can hunt. Deer are in that area from 8pm to 6am and then they're gone. Unfortunately, my property just so happens to be the food source they come to at night. Especially early season. I've got tons of persimmon trees and wild plum trees. I try to stay away from that spot and hunt between a thicket of trees and open pines. How the cookie crumbled for me.
