BL had BMC C-Series 3000cc & a Rover v8 3500cc which were reliable & they stuck unproven & would turn out to be unreliable Triumph v8 2500. That was one of reasons for BL's downfall.

The engine was the mistake. Triumph should've fitted the 3.5L V8 fitted to the Rover P6 and SD1 as it was much more reliable and a better powerplant, and would've attracted more buyers to it. <br><br>The disaster that Triumph built smashing two Triumph 4 cylinder engines together to create a V8 was flawed in every way from the outset, it ran hot, warped the cylinder heads and failed in a costly breakdown.
