I like this story. Each family member had a chance to begin a relationship that was long overdue. Regardless of lottery winnings, this was an opportunity to make things right. And everyone failed miserably. Not one family member could see what they missed out on over these many years. How sad. Recording their candid conversations was brilliant, no chance of a misunderstanding. Showing them the door was the icing on the cake. I couldn’t have done better myself. Well done.

First rule of winning a lottery, NEVER tell anyone - not 'family', friends, coworkers - of your money. You'll learn quickly who the greedy freeloaders are. Most states allow the winner to remain publicly anonymous using an LLC to receive the winnings, and place the money into a blind/irrevocable trust to protect it. Next thing I'd do is quit my job, legally change my name, phone number and e-mail, then I'd quietly leave town, move several states away. Go total no contact with them all. 🤨
