Why so many people don't end up adopting...

I took the risk of fostering to adopt and got 2 sibling girls which kept getting passed up on because one of the girls was disabled in a wheel chair so as soon as they would meet them in the group home and see her they would say no. My wife and I met them and we both felt a chemistry instantly like we knew each other for a long time. I wanted them to come home that day, but asked them if they wanted to come with us and they said yes instantly and we told them you can stay a day to say good bye to everyone. We came back and they were so surprised. They thought we wouldn’t return. Now we are in the adoption process and parents rights have been terminated. I can’t wait for our forever children. I know there always worried something will happen and they want it official. There was a sibling boy that constantly calls me on phone to this day calls me Dad last year and a half unfortunately he didn’t want to be with his sisters because of his trauma he needed to be alone on his on path. To this day he regrets that decision that he should have stayed. I told him that he can call me whenever he needs me.

Let me just start off by saying how well timed your videos are for what is going on in our life. Thank you so much for doing these videos, you have been unbelievably helpful and encouraging! Im truly grateful.

My husband and I are in the research phase this year and plan to adopt 1-2 waiting children from foster care. We have 2 kids at home (ages 2 and 7), and plan to start this process next year.

It took me 5 months to find 1 agency near me in north Texas that would help us. Every agency out here only does foster to adopt. And thanks to you, I knew the truth and knew what to look out for when speaking with these agencies and how some agencies may tell me otherwise to get us to foster instead. Its been a fun ride. 😅 (my fav emoji)

Thank you again for all you do 💗

🍤 has always been my favorite emoji, but I never get to use it! lol

You were one of the first people I found when we started our journey and your channel has been so helpful! We found an agency that we decided to work with to adopt a waiting child from foster care. We were told the kids were 7-18 and the average age of children adopted was 14. During the process with this agency they changed their rules and we needed to get a fostering license as well. As soon as we did that we began getting calls for foster kids needing placements and that was HARD. You feel like a horrible person saying no to a kid sitting in an office with no place to go that night.

When we got access to the children’s full profiles (and not just the quick bios they post online that you dream about as you scroll) we were SOO OVERWHELMED! We felt like we could never provide the care that ANY of these could would actually need with the trauma they had seen.

We paused everything because we felt in over our head with two young bio kids at home.

We got a call for an infant respite request and we said yes as a way to “try it out”. I actually think beginning with respite is a great way to tiptoe in! The expectation is extremely clear how long the child will be with you and you can see in even a few days how this can and will change your family.

My family actually loved having an infant which shocked all of us because we were very much out of the baby stage at our house. We paused everything again because we were so confused. Then one day I had such a strong feeling we were going to say yes to a call. Which we had no intention of doing. I very much think the feeling was from God.

We got a call for an emergency situation that for the safety of our younger kids we had to decline and the woman calling said, “Oh, you have young kids? How young are you willing to go? I have a baby who needs to come home from the nicu.”

We were told he would likely be placed with bio family later and he had other siblings in different relative homes. Even though we were obviously open to adopting we definitely expected him to go back to his mother or other relative and were rooting for his mom to succeed. It was the strangest experience bonding with a baby and knowing he could leave any day.

His plans did change to adoption and we were able to adopt him late last year. I will say it did take time even though we had had him since he was two weeks old straight from the nicu for him to feel like mine. For nearly two years we lived in the mindset of he could always leave and overnight he was ours forever. It’s amazing and wonderful but it took our minds and emotions on a journey.

It was such a crazy experience, but I have no doubt God took a hard situation and worked it into something beautiful.

🌤Thank you for your videos!! My partner and I want to move to another state first, so it won't be for a few years, but I hope you are still active when the time comes, because we want to pursue adopting from foster care, and your videos and information are so well-made and helpful!

🎵 Hi Katie -- That is a really thoughtful video. But meanwhile -- I am happy fostering again, with some good recent outcomes (independent living, reunification, etc.). People need to find what they are called to do.
