19:35 Hey look, it’s me!! I built the Butch & Sundance diorama. Thanks so much for the compliment on the explosion! I scratch-built the exploding car with some styrene and a bunch of scale lumber from my train club. Your diorama was absolutely phenomenal, and so creative!! You have such a great sense of motion with the collapsing bridge. You guys definitely deserved a spot on the podium!!

If I had the skill to do this stuff already, I’d probably end up doing a certain similar March 2 1923 incident that happened on my native defunct Monon Railroad. (Insert photo of mikado No 513 trying to do a plank off a collapsed bridge abutment)
Also, little tip; gold-dry-red-lightly wipe-dry

That shot with you two side by side with your work was really satisfying to see, and it makes me wish I got a similar photo with my dad when I had the chance. We had a similar age difference, but arthritis took his artistic expression away when I was very young, yet he very much informed my aesthetic and creative direction. I made a digital interpretation of my favorite painting of his (a coal tipple in WV) as one of his last birthday presents, and a print of it stays framed alongside his.

12:02 my dad says the same thing. Im just convinced he doesn't like doing the grass parts and leaves it for me to handle. I dont mind it, its super cathartic.

Buster Keaton's The General is a good movie, but I much prefer Walt Disney's 1956 adaptation of The Great Locomotive Chase since it's more accurate

16:45 when I do details on model car engines and interiors I use a toothpick or a piece of wire, and then gently apply it onto the part. I would give you a picture but YouTube doesn’t have that feature.

I agree with your disapproval of generative AI, especially in an industry that prides itself on accuracy. There should definitely be limits on how AI is used especially when it comes to generative elements. Personally I think AI can be beneficial in model railroading as a way to find sources such as prototype photos and documents, and as a way to organize thoughts and itemize materials for things such as layout concept/design, or to clean up writing, but I agree that image generation is mid at best. There is a key difference between using AI as a tool to enhance your work vs using it as a crutch and just dumping your work onto it and accepting whatever it spits out. Fantastic diorama BTW!
