💬 Thanks for watching! Which of these forgotten D&D concepts do you wish would make a comeback — and which ones would you leave buried? Let’s talk below! 👇

⚔ And ... if you like this kind of deep-dive D&D history, you’ll love my playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLX6jue56rzl0uAZIFwywJXIMXWVULmTqh

As a kid, THIS batch of rules taught us painfully to wait our turns, and think about what we wanted to do. On rare occasions, it also helped to cure Murder-Hoboitis.

After returning to D&D after 30 years, the DM drawing out maps on a Chessex dry erase mat was one of the biggest surprises.

In our games we also have a "treasurer" or "banker" who keeps track of the treasure and other loot we acquire.

I used to sit and draw maps on grid paper for hours and fully populate them, but most never got used. It never bothered me really, it is a highly satisfying and even therapeutic endeavor.

The caller is the person who orders the pizza .

Recently I had to explain at the Shadowdark Discord what was the caller and why the hell people needed that ... Great choice of subject Martin, nice job !!

As the frequent mapper, we found secret doors in the voids, and conversely got confounded by things like the teleporters in Rahasia...

Our group has been playing since 83 and we still have a designated:
-mapper
<s>caller (rather informally</s> acts more so as the facilitator for the players)
- hit point logger
-treasure/ experience points logger

Commenting for the algorithm, but 20 minutes in this is bringing back some great memories.

When we played 1e and basic DnD years ago, we had the DM (which usually was me), and usually 4 or more players.

One player was the caller, one player was the mapper, another player logged monsters killed (including the hp for each monster killed) by each character and another player logged treasure found.

At the end of the session I collected the experience and treasure found to calculate experience for the party. I had a BASIC program on my old commodore 128 to do the calculation. Now you can use excel.

This worked really well and we never had an issue.

This wasn’t for just one group of players we used it for multiple parties.

I played between 1980 through 1995. Still have my books, dice and miniatures.

One day I hope to play again.
