I'm 53 years old and went through many years chasing "thinness", eating low fat. A couple years ago I began prioritizing fat & protein ((NOT keto - i still eat lots of fruit, honey, & slow fermentation sourdough bread every day)). People comment on how thick my hair looks now, while most of my friends are beginning to thin out on their scalp.

My own mom had badly thinning hair, as did my grandmother. But they grew up in the era of low fat everything. I truly believe that balancing my diet and no longer being afraid of 80/20 ground beef, whole fat yogurt, heavy cream, & avocado...has given me 30% thicker hair with zero other changes.

    Findings :
-The Pre-Wash Shield: Wet hair stretches and tears easily. Coat your hair lengths in Camellia Oil for 30 minutes before washing to block water damage. Skip coconut oil if your hair is protein-sensitive.
-Scalp Care Over Oil: Heavy oils can irritate the scalp. Use science-backed growth or anti-fall serums as a pre-wash mask to reduce shedding without leaving roots greasy.
-The Drenched Leave-In Method: Apply your leave-in conditioner to soaking wet hair and scrunch it in. This forces the product directly into the hair shaft without leaving a heavy, tacky residue.
-Layer Fine Mist Protectants: Protect thick or long hair without weighing down the roots by layering lightweight, fine-mist heat protectant sprays angled away from your scalp.
-Blow-Dry Downward: Always point your hair dryer nozzle downward while applying light tension. This seals the hair cuticles flat, drastically cutting down on frizz and breakage.
-Seal, Don't Flatten: Use a straightener on a low setting (180°C or between 150°C–170°C) paired with a bamboo brush just once a week. This locks in the style and seals out humidity, preventing the need for daily heat.
-Inside-Out Health: Your body deprioritizes hair when internal health or hormones are off. Support your hair from within by prioritizing protein, collagen sources, low sugar, and inositol

This video, like all the other internet videos are misleading, just as the videos she followed and didn't work. What people fail to realize is that not everything is for everyone. You have to assess your hair properly. Like porosity, fine, thin, straight, curly.....and so on. Then you need to identify your issues. Also knowing your climate is an important factor. When you find out all the physical, then you proceed to products and routine. Everyone's hair is different. Please people, do not just follow these "influencers". They don't even care if you go bald, as long as they get the views and likes to make their $$

Okay but can we talk about the fact that your natural hair texture is just ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL

I can't believe you choose to straighten your hair with those naturally beautiful curls! Your hair is probably naturally drier because it's curly. Obviously your choice, but have you tried the curly girl method? Maybe working with what you have instead against it might deliver surprising results?

A few things to debunk influencer misinformation. Hair is not like a sponge, there is nothing about a hair follicle which resembles a sponge in structure or how it absorbs moisture. Camelia oil is one of the less studied oils. Coconut oil actually has the strongest research behind reducing protein loss from hair when used before washing. But for finer hair camelia may be lighter. Coconut oil is NOT higher in protein, coconut oil is almost entirely fat. Why you may feel coconut oil isn’t a good choice for you? Coconut oil actually penetrates deeper than most oils do which can leave the hair feeling all sort of ways depending on your hair type or damage level. Minoxidil has the strongest evidence for stimulating hair growth. The rest is simply personal opinion. The truest thing here? Hormonal & lifestyle factors which can attribute to hair loss more than anything, none of this can be addressed with any products we place topically on our hair. 😊

Coconut oil only makes your hair feel like straw if you're not washing it out all the way.

I did straight coconut oil masks weekly when i was a competitive swimmer, and my hair was always super soft with surprisingly few split ends for hair that was being constantly drenched in chlorine. When I started growing my hair out after I stopped swimming, these same masks made my hair feel like straw. It was only when I started double shampooing AND putting clarifying shampoo on my mids and ends once a month that my hair went back to feeling super soft post-coconut oil treatment.

Build-up doesn't just cause greasy roots. It can cause dry ends too. If all your hair masks stop working randomly, you probably need to do a roots-to-ends clarifying shampoo.
