Fun fact: Bluetooth technology is named after harold Bluetooth as an analogy to how Harold united his kingdom.
The symbol is a runic H and B put together.

Trial by ordeal in Danish regions also included having to walk barefoot over a carpet with small lego pieces scattered about.

back in elementary school, when we were learning about vikings and how they had different gods, some kid mentioned about how they couldn't be just warriors because they had gods for everything else too. They wouldn't have gods of stuff that weren't part of their daily lives.

I’m pretty sure Erik the Red, “discoverer” of Greenland, was outlawed (or his father was) and left Norway and went to Iceland, and got outlawed there, and left to Greenland. Because his “exile” from Iceland was described as 3 years, it probably was the “lesser outlawry”

Things - Ting - Folketing = the modern word we use in Denmark literally meaning "The Peoples Thing/Ting" aka "The Peoples Parliament"

In terms of cleanliness; our 'lørdag' (saturday) is really 'laugadag' or bathing day. So... Vikings usually bathed at least once a week.

a lot of these traditions also bled over into saxon and celt society as well.

The Arabic explorer mentioned was Ahmad ibn Fadlan who also said they were 'painted' from head to toe making many think they had tattoos but there is no other mention of tattoos in any other sources. John of Wallingford is the one who complained that the Viking men were attracting Saxon women and i would have thought that if they were tattoed he would have mentioned then being covered in 'Pagan' symbols. We still have Weregild in the form of compensation, body parts had a certain amount they were worth as well.

In Hedeby they also found a lot of forgeries - stuff which was more or less obviously not original. Ceramics, glass even jewelry from different european cultures at that time. It was not only an important trading hub, but also an early medieval Temu.
