  The RCA SelectaVision was pretty cool, my friend had that exact one. But $50 in a thrift store is STILL too expensive. You showed the $750 ebay listing, but not the $40 listing right next to it....  or the $25 Sold listing.  😉

  Those prices were crazy. They seem to vary a lot from store to store here in the states too.

  That RCA VCR is model VFT190. We sold these at out shop when they were new ($799). It was the 1981 "basic" model. The most common repairs needed were the idler tire and belts. The sensor lamp was a small incandescent lamp you could see in the cassette window. It would burn out and was the next leading cause of no operation. The top of the line model for that year was the VFT650 and had a new feature no others yet had: Wireless Remote Control and sold for $1,500 It also had clock/timer backup which was new. (I bought one on the employee discount plan 40% off plus 6 free tapes).

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dd5P5WPL8WA&amp;t=380">6:20</a> I&apos;ve been hoping to find an RCA SelectaVision top-loader VHS VCR (even though I already have several working front-loader VHS VCRs and two Panasonic top-loader VHS VCRs), but typically when I find them or old &quot;piano key&quot; Beta VCRs, they tend to chew tapes or not work at all, so $49.99 is a bit steep considering a few years ago, I walked away from a Sony piano-key top-loader VCR for $24.99. They are very cool though and they depict that late-1970s/early-1980s era. <br><br>Plus, I enjoyed watching the documentary &apos;Adjust Your Tracking&apos; about horror VHS movie collectors and one of the first segments showed a TV commercial for RCA SelectaVision VCRs. &nbsp; :)

  I love old top-loader VCRs with proper dials on the front. Those things were built like appliances, not home electronics.
