Using Effects (Compression, Reverb, Etc.) in the Tascam Model 12

The one knob compressor changes several parameters of the compressor. from min to max, it lowers the threshold, but also reduces the ratio from about 20:1 to 2:1 at max position. So your incoming signal requires to be gain staged or set at a level that you like the compressor setting to be in. Kind of reverse of what you would normally set a compressor to the signal. Eg, high level input for high ratio (min), low level input for low ratio (max). I have a video on my channel that shows how I analysed the compressor that might help you better understand and make better decisions during mixing. Many other manufactures normally display a graph between threshold and ratio changes but TASCAM has not made any of this public.

I've had the Tascam 12 for a few weeks and it's a difficult and slow learning process for me because I am old (72) at last count. I had a Zoom 8 for years which was much simpler, but it started getting static in some tracks and other problems. As I struggle slowly through the learning process, I watch your videos, and they keep me going. Otherwise, I would put the Tascam 12 back in the box and buy another Zoom 8. LOL So, thank you so much!!:hand-pink-waving:

i really hope tascam tweeks the compression and expands the controls in the next firmware..its very possible to make it way better.

The Aux 2 Main isn't actually part of the FX signal chain. As long as nothing is plugged into the Aux 2 output jack, the signal goes straight from the Aux 2/FX Send to the FX bus. If you plug anything into the Aux 2 output it will disable the FX bus and then you would have to raise the Aux 2 Main in order to get the sent signals to the Aux 2 output. Nothing wrong with leaving it at unity though, you just don't have to if you don't want to.

Agree. Do you think one can use an analog mixer to send tracks into the M12 ? Got a GB2R 12/2 which is practical for using my own fx etc. So i could mix several channels into one. Is that an orthodox practice ? I wait for response to this before buying the tascam...
