I genuinely started wheezing with laughter when he said "people talk to me like as if im some kind of North Korean defector"

It's interesting to me that Trae says he is the way he was raised to be, because I, a person with extremely conservative parents, feel the same way. I was taught to love my neighbor, to seek out people who seemed excluded and invite them along, to appreciate fairness and honesty, and to say something when I saw someone not living up to those values. Needless to say, they were very surprised the first time I spoke up about something they said or did. I genuinely believe that at one time they truly held the values that they taught me, but a system that preyed on their fears, insecurities, and biases replaced all that with poison. That's part of why I think so many conservatives generally have fallen into fantasism. They remember themselves as good people, so in order for them to reconcile with all the bad things that are being done in their name they have to believe, down to their core, that the world is completely different from reality.

There was a poll in Germany in the mid 50s asking them their opinion on Hitler as a leader. He got about a 20% approval rating. There are simply going to be a large group of people who will never change their minds about Trump.

I'm from Southern West virginia, and when I went to New York City for a few days, so many people were telling me to be careful and asking if I was scared of going by myself.
Not very long ago in my holler, a guy was found dead in the ditch, with the back of his skull bashed in and his pants around his ankles, and the police tried to rule it a suicide.
I have watched two shootouts, head the towns drug dealer pass away in my yard. My little sister has had three of her school friends murdered. Why on Earth would I be afraid of New York City.
I felt safe the entire time I was there, even walking around at night and riding the subway.

My grandma lives in Alabama. She absolutely hates Trump and republicans. I live in Nebraska but I’m a part of Nebraskas famous “blue dot” split electoral vote.

To be fair, Josh Johnson is doing an excellent job with the topical comedy. Putting out 30+ minute tapings like once a week. His formula is essentially to make an analogy between current events and a personal story of his

My parents hated Trump so much that they used to mute his commercials, and now they’ve voted for him 3 times. I totally see what he’s saying about that shift. I saw a big change after 9/11 and I think that’s where nationalism overtook their values.

One of the things I really appreciate about Trae is that, through his own willingness to say, "This is wrong and I don't know how to fix it," he lets us have our own moment of acknowledgement of the wrong and our own feelings of being unable to fix it, either. Not that we should stay in that headspace, that won't fix anything - but sometimes it helps to just take a moment to hear another sane person speak the truth.

I'm so glad that Adam discovered Trae Crowder. Between him and Tennessee Brando, these gents are rewriting the narrative when it comes to the south. This is a great conversation to be had.

I remember watching Trae a long time ago, as a Canadian, he really helped to shed a light on aspects of the USA I didn’t know and misjudged
