Troy would have been an emo teen, but couldn't because of his dad 😂

Camille! A couple of episodes ago you mentioned taking your antidepressants in the evening because they make you tired during the day. Thank you so much for sharing that protip because now I went to my doctor and we decided that I can take my meds in the evening as well. And now I haven't needed to nap during the day for about a week! Thank youuuu❤

Something I find interesting about Troy is in a lot of ways he’s an amalgamation of Shane and Ilya, but without a lot of their struggles.

Like Shane he’s an all Canadian serious hockey player. But he’s white, has more ability (until this book) to blend into his team and perform in ways that hockey players are supposed to.

Like Ilya he’s considered an asshole, a persona he’s built up as at least a partial response to his toxic relationship with his terrible father. But he’s not Russian, and never has to worry about being deported. Crucially he also still has a supportive mother.

I feel like because of who he is, and that the reader doesn’t have to worry about him too much, he becomes a great character to start exploring heavier themes with.

Another rich and juicy episode to digest! You are feeding me so well during this time between seasons. I particularly love hearing Robert’s reactions to Role Model since he isn’t reading ahead. I really appreciated the reminders that even our most fave Centuars dudes are, in fact, dudes with realistic flaws worthy of considered discussion and criticism.

You have to read Common Goal to see that Troy was already distancing from Dallas Kent before the rape accusations and the break-up. I think Ryan coming out and confronting Dallas had a huge impact on Troy and that was when he began on his road to being a better person. I also don't think that Troy would have looked the other way if he saw girls getting treated badly.

So, fun fact, there is actually a TV show that is set in the X-Men universe called 'The Gifted' that I immediately thought of, and there is also Legion, which is set in the same universe, I think...

Can confirm, if 1995, then peak age for Percy Jackson. Troy just didn't really give off fantasy reader vibes.
