  The word &quot;Khazar&quot; derived from the word &quot;Qasar, Gezer&quot; which means &quot;to roam, to ramble&quot; in Turkic languages.

  The Khazars were a Turkic people, they were led by the Ashina clan, a clan of Göktürk origin. The Khazar people spoke an Oghuric language like the Bulgars, the Sabirs or the Onoghurs, while the ruling elite spoke a Common Turkic language like the Göktürks or the Uyghurs.

  &quot;Khazar&quot; simply means &quot;grassland nomad&quot; in Turkic, and it&apos;s not an ethnic name. Don&apos;t be confused. <br>The East and West Gok-Turk Empires went under mostly due to the sabotage by the Chinese Shui and Tang Dynasties. The Chinese were aware of the Khazar Empire west of the Volga, but did not interfere, because it not pose any threat to China, given the sheer distance. The Chinese Tang Chronicles referred to the Khazar Turks as 突厥可薩部 or &quot;the Khazar Province of Gok-Turks.&quot;

  The term “Khazar” is believed to come from the word “Qasar” or “Gezer,” which in Turkic languages means “to roam” or “to wander.”..

  In the far west, one group of the Bulghar tribes defeated by the Khazars migrated to the Balkans (c. 679), subjugated some sedentary Slavic tribes, and established a state there, eventually assimilating to their more numerous subjects.16 Another group of Bulghars withdrew to the north, settled in the Middle Volga region and coalesced Middle Volga region and coalesced with the local, sedentary, Finnic-speaking tribes into another state.17 In this case, the Turkic language prevailed. The only exception to the almost complete predominance of European steppes in the second half of the first millennium were the Magyars (Hungarians).
