It was very complicated and yet so much fun to build this clock! For those who are struggling with the clock stopping after a few turns and then restarts after slight disturbance to the balance wheel, Friction is your enemy.

1. The escapement wheel (in pg 41) needs to be as even as possible and you can identify if this is a problem if your clock stops exactly at the same positions on the wheel as the tourbillon rotates. Make sure all the teeth and groves between are even.
2. The adjustment of lever A and B should be very delicate. Make sure its exactly centered to the middle of the pallet fork, otherwise the balance wheel oscillates more to one side than the other and clock stops
3. As you are popping out the gears, There are points on it where they are stuck to the plywood board. Those need to be sanded down. Also try to make sure to sand down surfaces that rub against each other. Wax and sanding gives smoother surfaces
4. In places where you need to use 2 metal washers, There is clearly a shiny side and dull side. The dull sides facing each other get stuck while the other way is smooth and turns easily
5. Use oil to lubricate moving parts where appropriate
6. Sand down the tooth picks till you dont feel them where they are cut off. They rub against each other and cause the tourbillon to pause
7. If there is too much play up and down the axis for movement of the pallet fork or the balance wheel, dont hesitate to add additional washers or the wooden spacer. side to side movement should be as smooth as possible. I cut a tiny strip of sand paper and sanded down the insides of the holes for the balance wheel and palet fork so they move smoothly and waxed and sanded down the tooth picks where needed

I managed to make it work continously for the maximum time (~3hrs) till the main coil fully unwinds. I had to open up the tourbillon a couple of times till I understood all the issues. Its a great way to understand how a mechanical clock works and makes you appreciate the art of making something so complicated fit in your wrist!

I really appreciate you Ugears; the fact that you have a YouTube channel that puts out tutorials for your sets is super convenient. I can't wait to build this one!😂😂

LOOOONG response.

This clock model is EASILY the hardest model this company produces. After building this THREE TIMES (and only getting it right on the third try!) I have a few tricks.

1) DON'T sand the gears themselves. Sand smooth parts. DO NOT SAND GEAR TEETH. EVER. Those angles are precise and regular on each tooth. Don't sand those down. At all. Ever.

2) Try a #2 pencil in place of wax. The core of a #2 pencil is graphite. Did you know that graphite is an excellent dry lubricant? Try it! Use a sharp pencil to draw a very (VERY!) shiny surface where it says to use wax. Don't skimp! Make the face of those gear teeth look like they're covered in metal when you shine a light on them. Graphite on graphite is SUPER slippery. On gears, it makes the lever action of each tooth (see DO NOT SAND TEETH above) work better. When I started doing this I stopped having gear seizes.

3) Use graphite on the parts that join - by which I mean, the edges of the little prongs that socket in to another part. It'll make it easier to put together AND easier to take apart if you screw up. Basically, where tab A joins into slot A, make the ends of tab A shiny with a pencil. EVERYTHING will assemble easier, and with far less force.

4) I don't care what the instructions advertise - where you can, use glue (Gorilla glue, or another super glue) to join parts that will NEVER come apart (like the escapement fork in this model). There's no reason at all why you shouldn't join parts together permanently that are meant to never come apart. Just make sure you don't accidentally glue things such that you CAN'T disassemble if you have to - you might want to remove gears for maintenance later!

5) The tourbillion portion of this model is SUPER fiddly. It's easily the most delicate wooden mechanism I've ever seen from any of the several wood clock models from various manufacturers. Once you build the tourbillion, you should be able to turn the top hemisphere all the way around the circumference of its housing at least once without it stopping. IT NEEDS A VERY LIGHT PRESSURE - I'm talking about the kind of pressure your pinky finger can exert without any tension at all. This thing uses a feather-light touch when you run it in after joining the two hemispheres.

In addition, the two rotating levers holding the escapement spring (the lever with the slit and the lever with the toothpick piece that the spring passes through) have to be in the exact right places, and that varies from build to build. play with those; it might take an afternoon to find that sweet spot where the levers are constraining the spring JUST ENOUGH for it to spring back properly. It's a very fine tuning. You will want to throw things. Keep at it! You'll get it into its sweet spot in time.

And have fun! This is easily the hardest model this company makes, and it's worth the time to get it right!

I'll be great if I can put a motor make it run for a very long time.

At 17.03 (Page 14) you show the hours increasing when you turn the minute wheel on full revolution. The model up to this point has been dis-assembled and re-assembled by my self and also a friend and 3 people have confirmed that the assembly has been correctly done, however the Hour wheel does not always increment to the next number on the wheel. It is very intermittent and I am unsure why this is not working. Suggestions ???

Склав до кінця. Не вистачає лише сили для крутіння. Приходиться пальцем давити на шестерні, щоб турбійон працював. В кого можна попитати поради як налаштувати?
