Ive been to japan twice, and both times i went out of my way to go to kagoshima. It's such a wonderful city. The footbaths on sakurajima are probably my favourite place on the planet. Just sitting there in the warm, overlooking the city in peace. I was sitting with my feet in the water on my first visit in 2015 and a cat came over and just jumped on my lap and laid down, it was so great.

Thank you for the great recommendations! Kagoshima was on our itinerary for November but we thought it was not worth a proper visit, you have changed my mind now and we'll be staying at least a night!

So much to see and do in Kagoshima. Tbh, just the view of majestic Sakurajima from the main street is enough reason to visit. Meizancho looks like a lot of cozy, nostalgic fun. Definitely on my "must visit" list. 💜💜

I was a high school exchange student in Kagoshima in 2007-2008 and those are some of the fondest memories of my life. Despite the trauma of having to run a 5k at the base of Sakurajima, haha
