  Very rigorous examination of a very ephemeral element of construction. Working on older homes, as I do often, I really have to stretch my mind to imagine how the original builders would have assembled door-frames, windows and material transitions. The ingenuity and precision as you peel the layers back is always striking. What destroys this work is when people slap on mortar or caulk rather than analyzing the original leaves of material to understand what is failing, and how to restore it. Nice work!

  It&apos;s interesting. &nbsp;Matt Risinger just had a video how modern construction doesn&apos;t have much room for error. &nbsp;A window with a tiny leak on a Victorian house has an overhang to protect it, and probably even a protrusion above the window. &nbsp;On a modern house there likely isn&apos;t an overhang and the window is usually flat. &nbsp;He was saying that if you build to a modern blueprint you have smaller margins for tiny mistakes.

  I can 100% imagine someone watching this and going &quot;Gotcha, the obvious issue here are windows.&quot; and then designing, and building, a windowless skyscraper.

  PEMB guy here. Caulk is the default solution for many building erectors who do not have on staff a good sheet metal guy who knows how to custom flash openings and different panel connections/transitions. Whenever the default is caulk, instead of a proper flashing connection, the end-user will be making the inevitable phone call to the GC about their building leaking.

  That architecture that doesn&apos;t think about air flow and expects the use of AC is also a safety issue with the modern issue of energy infrastructure going down during extreme heat phenomenon

  20 yrs ago I traded house painting for rent with a slimy landlord who BARELY paid for paint. While prepping I uncovered a window similar. Decided instead of smearing with goop I&apos;d dive in an reconstruct, as well as possible with my skill allowed. Was so proud of the results and it looked awesome.

  Just gonna say that I&apos;m not against &quot;cookie-cutter&quot; homes in any way. What I am against is pricing &quot;cookie-cutter&quot; homes anything above the lower third price range for housing. <br><br>We shouldn&apos;t have the vast majority of housing, whether rented or bought, out of the price range of a reasonable single individual&apos;s wages. Keeping basic housing out of the range of affordability is killing the developed world.
