In the 90's, my father had collected over 350 cars from 1972-ealier. Most were projects, the vast majority ran and drove, and a select few were "restored." I learned from a young age that getting something running, driving, stopping and then going and driving the hell out of it was way more important than a Barrett-Johnson restoration. Look at how many people get stuck on full restorations, they buy a car, rip it apart into a million pieces, than 5 years later they are trying to sell a car that's in 100 boxes to someone else. But if that same person just concentrated on getting the car on the road then fixing things over time as they were driving and enjoying the car, they'd be miles ahead of the 100 boxes guy.

That Nova would sell for more than $5K in Canada before you pulled it out of the ground.

You're joking about holes in the floor.
In the rust belt those cars have not existed for 35-40 years because of salt.
You simply don't find those bodies here anymore.

Changed a fuel filter once and my buddy handed me a pencil to put in the line temporarily so it wouldn’t leak, pulled the pencil out and hooked up the line, drove it for about an hour and it quit. Pulled the line off and no fuel, checked in the hose and found half a pencil. Come to find out he had earlier taped the pencil together and i never noticed the other half was still in the hose 😂

Mom and Dad sold their house and I came to pick up my little garden tractor. We could not get it to start. Mom is in the seat trying to start it Dad is in front squirting brake cleaner and it would turn but not stay on. After almost an hour everyone is fusturated. The gas is gravity fed and Dad said it’s acting like it’s not getting any gas at all. I gasped “Oops!”. I forgot I shut off the fuel valve. I opened it and Mom started the engine with no problem. She had a magazine in her hand which she used on me. Dad stayed quiet. No doubt the thought, “My daughter is an idiot.” Crossed his mind. 😂

I cannot believe you found a giant bush in the engine bay and didn't call it the "power plant".

I love the current "beater" movement in the car world. I hated the days where every car was thought to be a $100k+ future Barrett Jackson goldmine investment - until it rotted into the ground, or got blown apart for a frame off resto that never happened. Make it run, make it stop, and worry about the cosmetics later!

My first ‘66 Chevelle had way worse floors. All four areas you would put your feet on were completely gone. Made my own patch panels and it was fine. Had it for years raced it and beat it and loved it.
