  Italy is my favorite country in the world. I've lived in Lucca and Perugia BUT I think it's strange that you don't mention the corruption. I find the Italians to be honest during daily life but NOT when you deal with the bureaucracy or rent apartments. As a Scandinavian who lives in the U.S. I'm used to a high degree of honesty, but most places in Italy you have to know somebody to get things done. Italy is fantastic but it's also quite dysfunctional in a way that can be charming when you're there for a few weeks but NOT when you live there,

  I visited Portugal many years ago and cycled from Lisbon to Santiago de Compostela, Spain. The Portuguese people were so kind and helpful. Beautiful country, food, community and history. Always felt safe there. Fabulous.

  I've been all over Europe, but I still choose Portugal. It was 1991 when I arrived in Portugal and stayed til I moved to the US on 2002. After living in US for 26 years I have enough with the craziness here. Moving back to Portugal anytime soon. 😊😊😊

  Netherlands just passed a 36% UN realized cap gains tax. It is (or should be) a non starter for any ex pat.

  As an expat myself, I agree. So many "Move Abroad To..." videos overlook the absolute necessity of having an emotional connection to your adopted country/culture. No matter how good a country looks on paper, if it doesn't feel like home, then you'll never feel settled. Because even WITH that connection, you will still feel like an outsider from time to time.

  I’m Portuguese.  You are almost Portuguese as well, since the thing about us is…. we do have lots of issues and struggling financially as natives here. Many things so wrong lately. But no matter how much we travel and struggle, at the end of the day, here is where we want to come back to. Obrigada 🙏

  I was born on the silver coast, but have lived in the US for many years. We inherited our ancestral home (where I was born) in the mountains of Serra de Aire de Candeeiros. I agree 100% about the silver coast; the climate, beaches, and easy access to Lisbon, is unbeatable. So happy you're happy with my birth country! 🇵🇹❤🇵🇹

  I’ve been to Portugal on vacation.  I went to an amazing restaurant called Pinocchio’s.  If you are American, this is especially important to go here .  It was recommended by our bike tour guide.  This was one of my favorite outings of all time.  It will take a lifetime to know the history of Portugal.
