The actress that played the wife is in fact Scottish (I first saw her in trainspotting )
But that rural Texas accent was on point!

The source of the script was a novel by Cormac McCarthy. The Coens were very faithful to the original writing.

The Coens went to the trouble of dressing Llewelyn in a distinctive shirt and viewers still don’t recognize him when he dies.

 "Who wrote this?"

Pulitzer Prize winning author Cormac McCarthy. The Brothers Coen loved the book so much that they recreated it as close to word-for-word as they could.

At one point filming had to be put on hold because Paul Thomas Anderson was setting oil derricks on fire in the distance while shooting "There Will Be Blood". The giant plumes of black smoke in the distance were getting in the Coen Brother's shots.
It's wild these two amazing films were being shot at the same time in the same place.

The scene with the Mariachis is hilarious because their singing to him about how last night was fun but now he's paying the price until they see his wounds😂

The key to the movie is understanding Llewellyn is not the main character, Sheriff Bell is.

Its a Captive Bolt Air pistol. They're used in slaughterhouses. The compressed air drives a metal rod forward at high speed. Cheaper than having to use bullets

Cormac McCarthy, who wrote the novel this is based on, has a very unusual writing style that is almost more like poetry than traditional prose. One of his trademarks is dropping a lot of punctuation where it normally would go— he never uses quotation marks, and frequently drops commas in favor of long, run-on sentences. The long silences and lack of musical score seem, to me, almost to be the Coen Brothers making a (successful) effort to capture this part of the style.
